Mermaid and Her Beta annual redraw

This digital painting was one of the first paintings I did using Krita back in January of 2017. One year later, I decided to redraw it in Photoshop and found I made notable improvements in the last year when it came to drawing, especially with a digital media. I used gradient maps to color in the values I rendered and made some creative decisions when it came to parts of the painting, like her hook hand and changing out the goldfish for a purple beta fish roughly based off of one of my most remembered books of my childhood, Rainbow Fish.

The values of the mermaid (I don't know why I colored just her eyes in separately but I guess that's what I did).

At some point, somebody suggested I put sausages on her hook hand. So I did on a separate layer and I kind of liked the outcome.
